Las Vegas is home to more than 130 casinos, each with its own attractions and unique culture. If you're planning a trip to Vegas and feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of different places to gamble, don't be intimidated. Famous las vegas sayings. While Vegas can be overwhelming for first-time visitors, at least it was to me, it doesn't have to be. Riders on the storm game. Las Vegas and gambling are almost synonymous, and for the beginner gambler, that first trip to a casino can be a little bit intimidating. Slot machines, as it turns out, are slightly more complicated than putting in a coin and either winning or losing.
- Walk up and down the strip on both sides at least once. Not only is this entertaining for people watching, but it's good exercise and it's a great way to see the city. If you are going inside every hotel along the way, this could be a full day or longer. Don't be surprised what you see. You will see people handing out cards for strippers. You will see homeless people. You will see people wearing costumes trying to take pictures with you (for a nice tip of course). Literally 'anything goes' in Vegas. When random people try to stop you to sell you things or ask for money, 'just say no,' and keep walking. TIFF'S TOP TIP: The strip is a LOT longer than it looks. The Stratosphere is not just 'right there' so wear comfortable shoes when walking the strip. Your feet will thank you!
- You do not have to be a gambler to have fun in Vegas. There ARE SO MANY things to do in Vegas. Many concerts come to town as well as an array of amazing shows. There are SO MANY awesome restaurants in Vegas. TIFF's TOP TIP: Go to Hash Hash A Go-Go and get the chicken and waffles and share it with someone because it's huge and YUMMY! While you're there, get one of their famous Bloody Mary's too.
- Vegas is NOT cheap. If you are looking for an inexpensive vacation, this is NOT IT unless you are traveling with someone who gambles a ton and has a lot of comps. Free drinks and cheap food is hard to come by in Vegas. You may be able to act like you are gambling to get a free drink or two, but that's about it unless you are truly gambling. You may be able to get a dollar hotdog or shrimp cocktail in downtown Vegas (warning, it may taste a little sketchy). TIFF's TOP TIP: Research Groupons before you head to Vegas. You may be able to save a lot of money on restaurants and things to do with a Groupon. I've actually planned a Vegas trip before based entirely on Groupons I purchased.
- Don't eat too many buffets. A lot of them are overpriced unless you eat a ton. Plus, you really don't want to get too full where you want to fall asleep. You are in VEGAS for crying out loud..don't waste too much time napping. TIFF's TOP TIP: Go to the Flamingo Brunch Buffet (there may be a Groupon for it too!). Unlimited mimosas and Bloody Mary's are included in the less than $20 price. Not only are they yummy and they are delivered to your table, this may be one of your best bargains in Vegas! Side note, the food is pretty good too. The buffet includes salads, breakfast including an omelet station, Italian and Mexican food and everything in between and an entire dessert bar including make your own crepes!
- Check out Fremont Street and downtown (Old Vegas). If you are staying on the strip, you will need to take an Uber or Lyft there. Food and drinks tend to be a little cheaper downtown. Slots are looser and minimum table bids are lower for those who are gamblers. There's a zipline, a Heart Attack café, and additional interesting people watching downtown. TIFF's TOP TIP: Take your picture with the million dollars in the Golden Nugget (it's free!) and check out their pool that has a shark tank in it!
- If you are going to Vegas between April and September, make sure to carve out time to enjoy the pool at your hotel. It literally took me a hand full of Vegas trips before I made my way to the pool. I've met so many fun people and Facebook friends (LOL) at Vegas pools Vegas is HOT so the pool is so REFRESHING. Plus, people watching at Vegas pools is quite entertaining! TIFF's TOP TIP: research pool parties before you go on Trip Advisor so you can plan your Hotel/pool experience ahead of time. Some pools like MGM have a lazy river. Others like Hard Rock and Mandalay Bay have a 'beach.' Some casinos like Tropicana have blackjack tables in the pool.
